Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been increasingly recognised as an effective therapeutic method to assist with a variety of conditions, symptoms and problems. In hypnosis and the trance state there is experienced the power of the unconsious which can be harnessed to create effective and lasting change. Drawing on the learning and potential of one's inner resources in hypnosis can create a positive and constructive arena for transformation in many areas of life. Hypnosis is a safe and benefical experience which can promote an healthy life experience, human development and flourishing.

Therapy

Hypnosis is not in Itself a form of psychotherapy or counselling but is used as a therapeutic mode in the wider context of building up a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client in order to explore change and transformation. The wider context of therapy involves the use of ideas derived from psychoanalysis, Jungian thought, client centred approaches, cognitive behavioural views and philosophically informed practice.

Stoping Smoking

Attempting to stop smoking can be a very difficult and stressful experience for many people. We know that stopping  smoking has immediate and long-term health benefits. In the smoking cessation sessions the client works with the therapist to focus attention of no longer being a smoker to actualise being a non-smoker. A variety of methods are used to assist in stopping smoking including looking a belief systems around smoking, managing the physiological and psychological response to withdrawal, alternative modes of assistance and hypnosis may be used.

I am what I choose to become.

Learning Self-Hypnosis / Auto-Hypnosis

On of the benefits of hypnosis is that it can be generally learned and acquired as a skill by a client in a relatively short time. Self hypnosis can be very useful in dealing with stress, disturbed sleep patterns such as insomnia and other issues like chronic pain.

Breaking Patterns of Depression, Anxiety and Responses to Trauma.

Hypnosis can be very effective and supportive in breaking and transforming patterns of depressive thinking and anxiety. It offers an opportunity to engage in learning how to break out of repeated negative patterns of behaviour and mood. Intrerventions with responses to traumatic experience can be assisted with trance work.

Other Areas of Treatment.

Hypnosis has proved successful with more than just obvious areas such as stopping smoking or stopping unwanted habits. It has also been shown to successfully treat physical issues as well. Common conditions that have responded well to hypnosis and shown significant improvement include:

  • Irritable bowel Syndrome

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Acne

  • Weight management

  • Insomnia

  • Migraines

  • Pain management

Often, physical conditions are exacerbated by underlying stress or anxiety. If you suffer from any of these conditions you may have begun to notice a pattern in your symptoms, that they are often related to more demanding or stressful periods in your life.

Hypnosis may help you identify these triggers and to stop them happening.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, (IBS) is routinely treated with hypnosis, and is recommended as a treatment by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Evidence shows that over 60% of people show a significant improvement in their symptoms. Some hospitals and GPs surgeries offer hypnotherapy as a treatment; you may also find you are eligible for treatment under your health plan.

Skin Conditions

Skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis have also responded well to hypnosis. Treatment for skin conditions will often be focused on visualisations of the problem behind the problem – e.g. stress. You might then be taught self-hypnosis and other techniques for reducing this stress in your life.

Weight Management

Managing weight loss is one of the most effective results of hypnotherapy. Rather than just reducing calories that you are likely to put on again in the longer term, hypnosis gets you in touch with the reasons why you unconsciously eat. If you are the type of person that struggles to stop after a small piece of chocolate and feels compelled to finish the packet then a hypnotherapist can help you understand why and help you create new healthy self-management techniques.

As well as stopping compulsive eating, hypnosis can increase your motivation for exercise. It can also help you reduce portion sizes so you lose weight healthily, steadily and for the long term. Losing weight with hypnosis is essentially about teaching you to feel good about yourself, whatever size you are. It focuses on making healthy changes to your diet and lifestyle that will remain. Hypnosis for weight loss is about changing lifelong negative habits around food and body image; the best results are often when committing to a programme of treatment.

Insomnia

Insomniacs generally respond very well to hypnosis. A hypnotherapist can create a programme of personalised treatment that identifies your sleeping patterns and teaches you self-management techniques which make a big difference not just to how long you sleep but the quality of sleep you enjoy.

Research shows that hypnosis combined with cognitive behavioural therapy is the most effective treatment for insomnia.

Pain management

Hypnotherapy is often highly effective in dealing with pain management. In fact, people often undergo surgery and dental work using hypnosis as an anaesthetic. Hypnosis techniques can be taught to you by your therapist to help you manage chronic pain as well as pain post-surgery. It has also been shown to reduce the post-operative recovery time on some surgical procedures.

What will I expect in a session?

In working with you in relation to conditions such as migraines, IBS, or blood pressure it is likely you will have been treated by your Doctor so any medical problems can be properly ruled out. In some cases, your hypnotherapist will also write to your GP to inform them that you are undergoing treatment

Then I will work with you to uncover patterns in outbreaks, and using a wide range of a techniques work to reduce outbreaks and minimize the effects. You will usually be taught self-hypnosis and self-relaxation exercises as well.
